Montessori 101

Parenting Classes

These classes are held the second Saturday of every month until the end of the school year in June.

We will be providing various opportunities to learn more about Montessori, how to support it in your home, how it compares to other philosophies, guidance and discipline techniques and more.

Children are welcome we are asking for $10 per family to cover childcare during the two hour session. Children are welcome to attend, there is a teacher on site to allow them to play outside while the class is in session.

Arts, Literacy, Music - Canceled

Prepared Environment - Canceled

The prepared environment is the extension of the prepared adult. It is how to arrange the space to better suit the needs of your children at home and beyond. This is a lecture with time for questions and answers throughout.

The Prepared Adult

The Prepared Adult is a role model in the child's life who helps guide the journey of exploration and education. This person has to go through a personal transformation to empathize with the struggle young children experience in the process of acquiring new skills. This will be a lecture, question and answer presentation.

Sensitive Periods

A PowerPoint lecture on the Sensitive Periods. These are, used in Montessori to describe a point in a child's life when children focus their attention on a specific aspect of their environment with a special intensity to acquire a skill needed to advance their development.

The Brain - Canceled

The Brain will focus on how a young child's brain develops over the first three years of life. How to support physical, intellectual, and language growth.

Four Planes of Development

A PowerPoint lecture on how Dr. Maria Montessori observed children develop along similar paths all across the world. Learn the similarities and differences of the planes as well as to support a child in each stage of development. There will be time throughout for questions.

Freedom and Limits

A PowerPoint lecture on Freedom and Limits. This is the essence of Montessori education. Allowing children to be free throughout the environment, while also making choices to gain control over their own emotions and behaviors. There will be time throughout for questions.

Communication

A lecture on communication and how it develops in young children. We will cover examples of how to talk to infants, toddlers and preschool age children. A handout will be given on when certain sounds, words, and phrases should be present in children's speech. There will be time throughout for questions.

Parenting Styles

A PowerPoint lecture on the four parenting styles, examples and a chance to role play of each style. A handout to take home. A reflection of which style our parents were, which ones we are, and how Zora Montessori approaches children in our care. There will be time throughout for questions.

Temperament Profiles

There are 15 different temperament profiles. We will review each temperament together, rank ourselves, and all other members of our family. We will see where the similarities and differences are in our family. There will be time throughout for questions.

At Home

How to adapt your home to allow you child the freedom to move throughout your space, while incorporating them into every space in your home. We will review an article, pictures of how to modify the home, and discuss as a group what small changes can look like.

Areas

Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Language and Cultural are the five areas of the Montessori Classroom. We will cover the purpose of each of these areas and why they are unique to this Philosophy. PowerPoint lecture on each area of the Montessori Classroom, there will be time at the end of questions.

Observations

Observations are a critical part of how we see children in order to teach to their interests. We use this information to capture their concentration and predict patterns of behavior. My daughter Remy Legend will join us for this class, move through our classroom with Ms. D. Ann, parents will observe her movements, there will be times throughout for question and answer.

Virtues

We are presenting a class on the We Choose Virtues flash card series. These are stories about children and their troubles with being patient, self controlled and content. There will be time at the end for question and answer.
